Ye Blog - Part 4

Earlier this month, I assisted May with moving over from Blogger to WordPress (not WordPress.com, but the platform). Then a few days ago, it was Kudo’s turn. I was amazed at the speed in which the both of them quickly tidied all their blog entries and categorised them one by one. It didn’t take them more then a couple of nights to do it. Wow. What enthuthiasm. What dedication. Me? I moved over almost a month ago and still hadn’t thought of my category names!

Ini tak boleh jadi!

So like a violent drunken Irish, I cursed and cursed before finally sat down and began categorising my entries from day one. Bloody ‘ell. It took the most part of my weekend to get it done. I’m glad it’s finished now.

I also took the opportunity to make a few changes to my blog:

  1. I’ve increased the width. It’s now optimised for viewing at 1024×768 resolution. You can blame this on Kudo who made me feel a little blog-envy (is there such a word?) with his photoblog. Those who’re still on 800×600 should seriously think about moving on with the times and get a bigger screen (gila riak).
  2. I got rid of the Flickr thumbnails on the sidebar. I felt that it was somehow slowing down the loading time. I could be wrong but it does feel a lot faster without them. I might put them back in later.
  3. I’ve created a Photos page (to show off my crummy picture-taking skills). N.B. The thumbnails do not group together properly on FireFox (both Mac and Windows) but works okay on Internet Explorer and Safari. Please use these instead when viewing them until I’m able to sort out the bloody CSS code that is wreaking havoc. UPDATE 30 May 2006: This is now fixed and the thumbnails appear as they should be on all web browsers.
  4. Those without Gravatars have the option to create one at the bottom of my comment boxes. As soon as you have filled in the required fields, click on the checkbox, enter a unique password and hit the submit button as per usual. You will receive instructions by email on how to upload your own picture. N.B. The checkbox won’t appear if you already have a Gravatar.
  5. I’ve updated the About page. To be honest, it’s kind of a lame attempt. I just find it difficult (and really bizarre) to be describing one’s self. Shows how much of a non-bookworm that I am. Anyway, I ripped off the idea for the page from another famous blogger.
  6. Oh yes, and this. Click on the picture below for a surprise. Cool huh? )

Hello Again

Welcome to The Lost Codger’s new home. Yes, I finally decided to get my own domain and move over to WordPress. All my previous entries from Blogger and comments from Haloscan have successfully been imported across within two days (after a bit of head-banging against the wall).

No, it doesn’t necessarily mean that I will write more, but it’s nice to know that I can.

Reasons for moving:

  1. Because I can.
  2. Because I was bored.
  3. Because I had some spare cash in my PayPal account.
  4. Because I wanted to preserve all my entries if Blogger ever decides to bite the dust.
  5. Because Blogger does not support Categories (yet).
  6. Because the search function on Blogger sucks.

Speaking of categories, I now have over 300 posts to categorise *moan*.

Other things I need to do:

  1. Decide on my categories (oh joy).
  2. Figure out how to import the pictures that I uploaded to Blogger.
  3. Change any words with American spelling on the template (bleh).
  4. Come up with a better About page.

Right. That’s about it for now me thinks.
